The work

A classic that has crossed six centuries

For anyone who feels that prayer has grown cold, this book has been, for centuries, a way back. After the Bible, perhaps no book has been more widely read and translated in Christian history.

Written in the early 15th century and attributed to Thomas à Kempis, “The Imitation of Christ” is one of the most influential spiritual classics of all time. In four books and more than a hundred short chapters, it teaches the way of humility, detachment and the interior life — not as theory, but as the daily practice of following Christ.

Its method is simple and direct: brief chapters, meant to be read a little at a time, one a day. Each page invites you less to know more and more to love better — to turn reading into a concrete decision and a change of life.

Here you follow the work in full, chapter by chapter: the complete text, simple keys to understand it and the Way of the Day — Perceive, Decide and Live — as a contemplative video and a companion book in PDF, free.

From Book I · Chapter 1

Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, says the Lord.

These are the words of Christ, by which we are admonished to imitate his life and his ways, if we wish to be truly enlightened and freed from all blindness of heart. Let it therefore be our highest endeavor to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ, and there to find rest for the soul.
